Goodbye, Bowlmor Lanes

Last week Bowlmor Lanes on University Place shut it doors and now we must sadly say goodbye to this beloved institution. Bowlmor first opened in the Village in 1938 and was, until its closing, the longest-running--76 years--bowling alley in the Northeast. Over the years it had become a gathering place, playing host to college students, celebrities, and generations of local children.

The closure came as the result of plans to convert the building which housed Bowlmor, as well as several other establishments, into luxury condos.

Though the historic Village location is gone, residents and visitors can still enjoy a night out bowling in the city at the two other local Bowlmor locations: Chelsea Piers and Times Square.

For more information about the history of Bowlmor and its closing please check out last week’s New York Timesarticle.
