Village Businesses Share Their Autumn Essentials

As the hot days of summer give way to fall, a special energy sweeps through the Village. In this spirit of transition, we took to the streets of the Village to ask local business owners one simple question: What product in the shop captures the spirit of the shift from summer to fall?

Swapping Sunshine for Sweaters…

As the hot days of summer give way to the cozy days of fall, the changing season brings nostalgia for summer’s warmth and excitement for autumn’s traditions. In this spirit of transition, we took to the streets of the Village to ask local business owners one simple question: What product in the shop captures the spirit of the shift from summer to fall?

Goods for the Study

Highlights:

Taking your desk & stationery to the next level. Pens & pencils in every shape, size, and color. Candles. Perfect lamps.

As the days begin to encourage more time indoors, clear the clutter from your life by drawing inspiration from Goods for the Study’s in-store displays. There’s every opportunity to set yourself up for an organized, beautiful, and reflective fall, with countless options for journals, pens, pencils, stationery, and more to furnish your space exactly how you see fit.

Locavore Variety Store

Highlights:

Thoughtfully curated local goods to bring home or to gift. Pantry staples for fall, including delicious soup mixes, sauces, and jams.

We asked Caroline Weaver, owner of the Locavore Variety Store, to share the first things she thought of when considering the transition from summer to fall. Top of her mind: the shop’s selection of ready-to-go soup mixes. “The Midwesterner in me loves these.” Not to be missed: the unique candles in the shop, which are sure to bring the cozy atmosphere right into your home. We love the dumpling candle, pictured below.

Kernan Farms, Astor Place Greenmarket

Highlights:

The last of summer’s peaches, berries, and tomatoes are giving way to your favorite Fall produce.

Winn from Kernan Farms gave us the inside scoop on what to expect this fall at the Greenmarket. While it’ll soon be time to say goodbye to fresh cherries, blueberries, and peaches, there’s still plenty of time to enjoy sweet summer corn and beans. When that’s gone, you can look forward to fall favorites like apples, sweet potatoes, and all the squash you can think of—butternut, acorn, spaghetti, and more—just stop by the market to find out!

Moshava Coffee

Highlights:

Seasonal events and drinks in a year-round cozy, quiet cafe—with separate study and laptop-free floors.

Stay tuned for details on seasonal drink offerings—for now, look forward to events like Knitting Together, a weekly meeting on Wednesdays from 6:30pm–8:30pm resuming this fall. The gathering offers a comfortable space to practice knitting and work on personal projects, and is open to all skill levels. Knitting needles & yarn are available for a one-time fee of $12, and beginners can RSVP to info@moshavacoffee.com.

A Sustainable Village

Highlights:

More candles, in a delightful range of comforting scents. Also, everything you need to refresh your pantry & personal care so that treating yourself and the earth with kindness go hand-in-hand.

Em from A Sustainable Village showed off a new lineup of cozy fall candles. Our favorites feature adorable decals of Snoopy the dog camping out, bringing the crackle, aroma, and atmosphere of a fall campfire indoors. As always, the store’s lineup of carefully selected, eco-friendly soaps, cleaning products, and homewares—including a fully-stocked refill station to reduce single-use wares—make the transition to a more sustainable lifestyle more approachable than ever.

That’s it for this roundup. Stay tuned for more, and if you’re looking to discover more Village businesses, check out our places page!
