The Venue

Still standing today, Julius’ is the iconic bar that hosted the Mattachine Society’s “Sip-In” in 1966. When a picture of members of the Mattachine Society being refused service became published in The New York Times and the Village Voice, New York liquor laws that prohibited service to gay customers became revoked.
