Hettie Jones Residence

27 Cooper Square is one of the most historic tenement buildings in the East Village and was once a center for Beat Generation poets, becoming a landmark of the Black Arts Movement in the 1960s. Social activist, poet, teacher and preservationist, Hettie Jones still lives in the same apartment ever since she moved into the building in 1962.
