The Venue

From 1957 to 1959 acclaimed poet Frank O’Hara lived in this building. O’Hara’s work during the Beat Era marked him as the leader of the New York School of Poets and dubbed him “a poet among painters.” He lived in several Village apartments, but is said to have written a monograph about Jackson Pollock and continued his work on urban themed poems while here.

O’Hara died in Long Island in 1966 after being run over by a dune buggy.
