For several short years from 1968-1971, the ground floor of this building—a former movie house and now a bank—was the famed Fillmore East theater, where rock concerts were the rage. Among musicians recorded live at the Fillmore East were Jimi Hendrix and the Band of Gypsies, The Grateful Dead, Frank Zappa and The Mothers, Jefferson Airplane and Miles Davis.
