Electric Lady Studios
The Venue
In 1968, Jimi Hendrix and his manager Michael Jeffery invested jointly in the purchase of the Generation Club in Greenwich Village and later decided to convert the space to a highly specialized and custom-built recording facility. Designed specifically for Hendrix, the studio had round windows and a machine capable of generating ambient lighting in colors to fit any mood. The opening party was held on August 26, 1970, and since then rock legends such as Patti Smith, Lou Reed, and David Bowie have recorded here.
The legend continues, as the studio continues to record some of the greatest music made today including past sessions from Radiohead, Rufus Wainright, and The Roots. Check out Electric Lady’s website for more historic moments and the latest music recording news.
