Edna St. Vincent Millay Residence

75 Bedford Street

The Venue

The narrowest house in the Village stands at just 9 ½ feet wide. Built in 1873, it was intended to fill the space of an alley. Famed Pulitzer Prize winner Edna St. Vincent Millay lived in the house in the 1920s. Millay, who had several residences throughout her life, closely identified with the Village. Her middle name was in honor of St. Vincent’s Hospital, which is said to have saved the life of a close relative.
