Now on View: Gathering Currents by Daniel Roberts

Located at Ruth Wittenberg Triangle, the artwork beautifully captures the intricate and dynamic flow of the East River.

The Village Alliance, in collaboration with Second Ave Arts and the NYC Department of Transportation’s Art Program, proudly presents ‘Gathering Currents,’ an awe-inspiring sculpture by artist Daniel Roberts. Located at Ruth Wittenberg Triangle, the artwork beautifully captures the intricate and dynamic flow of the East River. Crafted from hand-bent stainless steel, the sculpture mesmerizes viewers with its knot-like forms, symbolizing the twice-daily tidal change that reverses the river’s course and intricately folds the current back onto itself. Roberts painstakingly mirrored the steel in his studio overlooking the East River, creating a reflective surface that interacts with its surroundings.

‘Gathering Currents’ serves as a captivating centerpiece within the triangle, surrounded by the architectural beauty of the Jefferson Market Library and the serene Jefferson Market Garden, inviting residents and visitors to appreciate the fluidity and beauty of nature’s rhythms within an urban setting.
