Welcome to the Village! What made you choose this neighborhood for your new Potbelly location?
[This] is one of New York City’s most iconic neighborhoods, with Washington Square Park, NYU and a lively mix of residential and shopping areas nearby. We felt that opening a Potbelly here would add to the vibrant scene, especially as a fantastic lunchtime destination. It is the perfect spot for fans to grab sandwiches, salads, shakes and cookies, whether they want to relax a bit at the shop or take it on the go.
For those who don’t know, Potbelly has a strong reputation for its toasted sandwiches and cozy atmosphere. How does this location embody the spirit of Potbelly, and are there any unique touches specific to the Village?
At Potbelly, we’re all about Fresh, Fast & Friendly service in an environment that reflects the local neighborhood. Whether it’s in the shop’s décor or the way our team connects with the community, we have aimed to make this location feel like a true neighborhood hangout where everyone feels welcome.
What’s the story behind the creation of the Potbelly brand?
Potbelly began in 1977 when Peter Hastings and his wife decided to start serving sandwiches to their customers at their antique shop in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. From there, the brand grew outwards from Chicago and continues to make people happy through good vibes and delicious, craveable food.
Aside from great sandwiches, Potbelly is known for its warmth and good vibes. How does your team foster that warm, inviting atmosphere in this new location?
Our team is committed to creating a friendly and welcoming environment for every guest. The shop’s interior reflects the spirit of the neighborhood, and our team’s positive, approachable service makes each guest feel at home the moment they walk through the door.
