Giving Back to Greenwich Village: Charitable Giving for the Holidays
The Village is home to remarkable nonprofits that uplift neighbors, support vulnerable populations, and enhance the spirit of the neighborhood. This year, consider adding charitable giving to your holiday gift list. Here are four local institutions making an extraordinary impact and why your donation makes a difference:
The Greenwich House Music School.
Greenwich House
For more than a century, Greenwich House has been a cornerstone of the Village, providing a wide range of social services to residents of all ages. From senior care to mental health services, music education, and substance use support, Greenwich House serves thousands of New Yorkers each year.
Their senior programs combat isolation, while the renowned Music School nurtures creativity in children and adults alike. With a mission rooted in strengthening the community, Greenwich House is vital to the Village’s well-being.
Why Donate?
Your support ensures that Greenwich House can continue offering its life-enhancing services to the most vulnerable, from elderly neighbors to those seeking recovery. A donation can take the shape of a direct financial contribution, or signing up for one of their many courses and events held year-round—registration for their winter term of pottery classes opened November 25th.
Washington Square Park Volunteers hard at work to maintain the park.
Washington Square Park Conservancy
The Washington Square Park Conservancy works tirelessly to maintain and enhance one of Greenwich Village’s most iconic public spaces. Through community partnerships, the Conservancy helps fund horticultural care, park maintenance, and free public programs, ensuring that Washington Square Park remains a vibrant gathering place for its neighbors and visitors.
Why Donate?
Your support helps sustain the beauty and functionality of the park, keeping it a clean, safe, and welcoming space for all. Contributions also fund cultural events and educational programs that enrich the community.
6th Precinct Community Council
The 6th Precinct Community Council fosters collaboration between local residents and the NYPD to promote safety and harmony in Greenwich Village. They sponsor initiatives like the Annual Police Holiday Dinner on Wednesday, December 11, to benefit the Greenwich House Our Lady of Pompeii Senior Center. This 20-year-plus Greenwich Village tradition, a festive highlight of the season, costs just $15 for the dinner, with all proceeds going to the Our Lady of Pompeii Senior Center Fund.
Taking place at Hebrew Union College at 1 West 4th Street, participants are encouraged to bring donations of food and beverages from local businesses and restaurants to the event. There are opportunities available to buy a table or sponsor a senior so they may attend the event free of charge. Contact 6thpctcommunitycouncil@gmail.com.
Why Donate?
Your contribution lets you attend a Village tradition while spreading holiday cheer and support to the Our Lady of Pompeii Senior Fund.
Paul’s Place on 14th St.
Paul’s Place
Operated by the Center for Urban Community Services (CUCS), Paul’s Place is a lifeline for individuals experiencing chronic homelessness in Greenwich Village. The shelter provides 24 Safe Haven beds, offering stable and supportive environments for some of the city’s most vulnerable residents. Its drop-in center serves 70–90 individuals daily, offering case management, meals, and housing placement services.
Why Donate?
Paul’s Place not only meets immediate needs but also helps people transition into permanent housing, breaking the cycle of homelessness. Your donation directly supports these transformative services.
God’s Love We Deliver
The mission of God’s Love We Deliver is to improve the health and well-being of people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other serious illnesses by alleviating hunger and malnutrition. They prepare and deliver nutritious, high-quality meals to people who, because of their illness, are unable to provide or prepare meals for themselves. They also provide illness-specific nutrition education and counseling to their clients, families, care providers and other service organizations. All of their services are provided free to clients without regard to income.
Why Donate?
God’s Love We Deliver fills an essential gap in the service and care needed by the populations that they serve. The meals, nutrition counseling, and support they provide offer a holistic, necessary, and deeply meaningful system of support for the groups they benefit.
Jefferson Market Library, where a donation supports its unique programming and open access to books.
Jefferson Market Library (New York Public Library)
The Jefferson Market Library, a landmark in Greenwich Village, is more than just a library—it’s a community hub. From free educational programs to cultural events and resources for all ages, the library enriches the lives of Village residents.
This historic branch offers everything from reading programs for children to research tools for students and quiet spaces for seniors. It’s a place of connection, inspiration, and learning.
Why Donate?
Your gift to the NYPL supports literacy, education, and access to knowledge for everyone in the community. It helps keep programs and resources free and accessible for all.
Make a Meaningful Impact This Holiday Season
Supporting these organizations isn’t just a donation—it’s an investment in the heart and soul of Greenwich Village. Each one plays a vital role in making our neighborhood a more compassionate, vibrant, and inclusive place.
