What’s your name, and where do you work?
My name is Emily Susino, and I work for SEE Eyewear on University Place.
When did you open, and where are you located?
We opened May 23rd, so we’re going on three months. We’re located between 10th and 11th Street, right on University Place in between all these fabulous restaurants.
Can you tell us how this business got started?
The business was started in 1998 by Richard and Randal Golden. They’re brothers, who started out in Birmingham, Michigan. Our first store is located there. The brand is really about having fashionable designs at a great affordable price for everyone. We work with all budgets. There are exclusive designs from all over the world. Limited quantities are key—you’re really walking away with a one-of-a-kind piece.
SEE Eyewear is so unique because of the exclusive designs that we carry. It’s our own brand. No one else sells this. They’re exclusive designs from all over the world, in limited quantities. They’re basically one-of-a-kind pieces. They stand out because of the colors—and they’re handmade, so they’re super vibrant.
What inspired the decision to open here in the Village, and how are you hoping to engage with people in the Village?
The Village is such a family-oriented community, and that’s something that SEE Eyewear really connects with. We love connecting with our clients. What excites me most about the Village is the community feel, where we are able to help each other out. I get to know my neighbors. I get to know my neighbors right next door at the nail salon or at the restaurant across the street, and we’re able to connect.
We’re hosting sip & shops to give that community feel. We have a meet and greet coming up in September (September 19, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM) where we hope you’ll be able to stop by and just say hi. Or if you have questions, we’re here to help you.
It’s really about getting to know our clients and patients and what they’re looking for and helping them feel good about themselves and show their own fashion sense. And being able to customize their glasses to either make them feel better and boost their confidence, and also to enhance their vision. It just makes it all worth it for us when we’re able to help you out with a problem and adjust your eyeglasses to feel right. And we have all the resources. We have an optician on staff and a doctor as well. That’s really what excites me, is when somebody walks away with a great pair of glasses that they love, they feel great, and they look great.
What lenses in the store are you most excited about right now?
I’m excited about our fashion tint lenses. We have a variety of colors we love to coordinate with the frame that you pick. Besides the fashion aspect, they do provide other functions. For example, if you’re sensitive to light. Usually, our clients who have blue eyes or light-colored eyes are light-sensitive and need some extra protection.
We also customize our sunglasses, and you can pick your own color lenses. We’re always launching new colors, so come check them out!
