The Village Alliance recently presented a Greenwich Village and East Village Trivia Night, co-sponsored by the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation (GVSHP), Neighborhood Preservation Center, and the East Village Independent Merchants Association.
Over forty Village history and culture buffs packed the Gray Mare pub to answer fiendishly difficult questions about Village culture and history in the battle for nerdy prices from GVSHP and goofy prizes from the Exit 9 Gift Emporium.
The colorful and forever funny NY Tour Goddess, Jane Marx was the quizmaster baffling the audience with questions like - “This style of brickwork pattern is an indicator of federal style row houses?” to “Name the two Redtail Hawks that inhabit Tompkins Square Park, after whom a notable East Village building was named?”
Twenty questions later and two fraught tiebreaks later the winners were revealed, scoring sixteen out of twenty. Look out for another Village Trivia Evening later this year, and it is never too early to begin your studying!
