The start date for construction to replace the 8th Street water main has been postponed until late August or early September.
The NYC Department of Design and Construction who are overseeing the project issued the following update on August 17th -
"Please be advised that the start of the New York City Department of Design and Constructions (NYCDDC) accelerated construction project to install/replace water main within the vicinity of 8th Street from Broadway to 6th Avenue and adjacent side streets has been postponed until late August/early September 2018. The purpose of this project is to improve the NYC water main system. This work will begin with tree pruning and removals, saw cutting, digging test pits which are small, minimal impact excavations to determine what types of infrastructure is below ground before larger trenching occurs. The scope of work includes installation of 12 and/or 20 distribution water mains, replacements of fire hydrants and gate valves, and trench restoration, weather and field conditions permitting."
