Over the next few weeks there will be some big changes coming to Astor Place as construction moves to the new Alamo Plaza.
First up, for all drivers please be advised that Astor Place is now permanently closed to traffic between Lafayette and Cooper Square. If you’re a biker or a driver be sure to use alternate routes when travelling around the area. Access to sidewalk, however, will be maintained for pedestrians during the new stage of construction.
Alamo “Cube” Island is also going to be looking quite a bit differently over the next few months. In an effort to protect the Alamo from damage, a wood box has been erected, hiding it from view. This is temporary, in the coming weeks, the Cube will be removed for several months to undergo restoration and ensure its protection as the renovations begin to ramp up.
We're excited to see the progress and can't wait for the end result. When completed Astor Place promises to be a pedestrian friendly destination providing visitors with an enjoyable place to pass their time.
