Ralph Lauren Supports Creativity

If you’ve been at University Place and 12th St during the past couple of weeks you’re no doubt among those that did a double take upon seeing the new façade at the Denim & Supply Ralph Lauren store. We certainly had our fair share of double takes among our staff so we decided to investigate the explosion of patterns and colors that are making such a dramatic statement in the Village. Here's the scope...

It turns out that Denim & Supply Ralph Lauren was interested in doing something bold that supported creativity and individuality in New York City; fused art, fashion and technology; and reflected the store’s young bohemian attitude to our historically bohemian neighborhood. The culmination of these goals is their first-ever Art Wall, a large, outdoor vinyl canvas that will not only transform with new artwork over the coming months but also protect the façade’s stonework from being damaged when the installation is removed.

The first installation is by compelling graffiti and street artist Hellbent whose calling card is the intricate layering of complex, vibrantly colored patterns in a quilt-like formation. Each transformation of the Art Wall will spawn a limited edition product inspired by each artist's work with 100% of sales from these custom products benefiting the students at the School of Visual Arts, a renowned college of art and design where artists such as Keith Haring, Kenny Scharf and KAWS got their start.

If you haven’t yet seen the Art Wall in-person it’s definitely worth a trip and keep following us on Twitter and Facebook for updates regarding the ever morphing installation.
