Over the last six months, Project for Public Spaces (PPS) collaborated with the Village Alliance to develop a placemaking strategy for Astor Place. This initiative, spurred by physical and traffic improvementsundertaken by the New York City Department of Transportation for Astor Place, represents a critical opportunity to transform the space from an underperforming, lackluster traffic island into the civic heart of the Village, as well as into one of New York City's great public spaces. The results of the PPS work can be found by downloading the PDF below.
The Village Alliance will continue to develop the programming for Astor Place over the next two years while Astor Place and the adjacent Cooper Square are under construction. For weekly construction updates, follow Astor Place NYC on Twitter.A Placemaking Strategy for Astor Place (1.7 MB)
