Edward Hopper Residence

3 Washington Square North

The Venue

For 54 years, from 1913 to 1967, Edward Hopper, realist painter of 20th century America, lived and worked on the top floor of this building.  One of Hopper’s neighbors in the 1920s was the novelist John Dos Passos, who rented a rear studio apartment here while writing Manhattan Transfer.

You can view some of Hopper’s work through the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s online catalogue.
