John Walker: The Sea and The Brush-- Opening Reception

New York Studio School

The New York Studio School and Alexandre Gallery present John Walker: The Sea and The Brush, an exhibition featuring new paintings and works on paper that capture the power, rhythms and raw beauty of the Northern New England sea coast. As with the landscape, the works present themselves as simultaneously tight and loose, primal and poetic. Each piece seems to reconsider the systems of nature from which they are derived.

The opening reception and lecture, will be hosted by William Corbett, a poet, memoirist and writer on art. He has published books on Philip Guston, Albert York and Stuart Williams. For a decade he participated in critiques at John Walker’s graduate MFA program at Boston University. He also contributed an essay to Walker’s book of Maine paintings, Looking Out To Sea.

This lecture is in conjunction with an exhibition of Walker’s work at the New York Studio School, on view December 11, 2017 through January 21, 2018.
